Interview with Grad School Participant Rennaye Miller

October 30, 2008

A Conversation with Rennaye Miller, a participant in the Mark Leader Grad School

How long have you been in real estate? I have been involved in real estate since 2004 with Realty Executives in Edmonton, AB. I have an interior decorating background and also hold an ASP (Accredited Staging Professional) designation that has been a definite asset in assisting clients to maintain their equity.

What made you decide to take Mark Leader’s classes? My first exposure to the Mark Leader Course proved to be a great starting point for my business. The information provided was realistic and easily applied to any situation. When Grad School was offered I knew immediately that it would add to the program that I was already using to improve my business.

Has your real estate income increased since you started the Grad School? My income initially increased when I starting applying the information from the course and Grad School.  Due to a dramatic and sudden shift in the marketplace and the economic landscape, my income level changed as well. But the ongoing information available via webinars proved to be invaluable in getting back on track. Grad School has expanded my knowledge of objection handling techniques as well as additional ways to educate clients.

What do you think has been the most important thing you learned through the Grad School? One of the most important things that I have learned through the Grad School is to ensure that we are putting the needs of our client first. It is all about relationships and of course FOLLOW UP!

What has been the most challenging aspect of your career during the past year? How have you resolved it? The most challenging aspect has been the recent downturn in the economy.  Buyers and sellers have been sitting across the table staring at each other and no one was willing to blink first! I have endeavored to think outside of the box and pick out the positives in the current market.  Since it is a great time to buy properties, I strive to educate my clients on all aspects of the economy and not just what they hear or read in the media. I am using more of the available stats and data to support the information I provide. I have chosen to educate my clients more regarding trends etc. I have also teamed up with a mortgage specialist with common community associations and interests. We are working with our sphere of influence as a team and will also be conducting seminars for varying segments of the buying public. We are also approaching various businesses with related interests and joint venturing with them in order to access their data base. Attending more networking functions has also proven to be invaluable. A personal brochure has also been a great tool to add to my credibility.  We realize that some efforts are long term, but we are confident that we will be able to reap the benefits in the near future. The use of a monthly newsletter has proven to be the most beneficial method of keeping in contact with past and future clients.

Have you continued to use the daily activity planner? How has it helped you? The daily activity planner is a valuable measuring stick to track personal goals and progress. No excuses, I just need to be better at recording my progress! Thank you for providing such an easy format to record the details and to keep me accountable.

Thank you to all of the Mark Leader presenters and staff for providing relevant and informative seminars, and for taking a vested interest in our success!
